Old San Jose City Hall May Be Turned Into A Gym

SAN JOSE (KCBS) – A unique idea for San Jose's old city hall building is starting to literally take shape, as one county supervisor wants to use the old government headquarters to help government workers stay fit and trim by turning it into a gym.

"I could certainly envision part of it being for county employees, then we could have retail businesses and housing," said Supervisor Ken Yeager.

Yeager, who has championed several health issues for the county, said that it's in every one's best interest to keep county employees in shape.

KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:

"We are aware of how much medical costs cost the county," said Yeager.

The gym idea is just that for now - an idea. But it wouldn't be the first time a historic Bay Area building has been brought back to life as a health spa. San Francisco's iconic Pacific Exchange now lives on as a high-end health club.
