Pedestrian Killed On Highway 101 In San Mateo
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) – A pedestrian on southbound U.S. Highway 101 was struck by at least one vehicle and killed Wednesday morning in San Mateo, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.
The pedestrian was identified as 22-year-old San Mateo resident Josue Meneses.
Meneses was reported to be walking on the highway just south of Poplar Avenue around 12:25 a.m.,
according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident temporarily closed all southbound lanes as authorities investigated. A Sigalert was issued at 12:36 a.m., according to CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt.
One or two vehicles may have hit the pedestrian, Van Eckhardt said. No other injuries were reported, he said.
Drivers were diverted off the highway until one lane opened at 1:15 a.m. An hour later, all southbound lanes were clear, according to the CHP.
