Suspects Sought In Brutal San Francisco Tenderloin Beating
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police are asking for the public's help in finding the suspects responsible for a brutal beating in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood in January.
The attack occurred around 2 a.m. on Jan. 29 near Polk and Elm streets.
A 23-year-old Hayward man saw suspects harassing women in the street and went over to try to stop it, police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi said.
"He was trying to do the right thing and intervene," Manfredi said.
The suspects attacked the victim, knocking him to the ground and continuing to punch and kick him until he lost consciousness, according to Manfredi.
The suspects then fled from Elm Street toward Van Ness Avenue, where they got into a vehicle described as a black pickup truck and drove away north on Van Ness Avenue, police said.
The victim was critically injured and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. He has since been released from the hospital but remains in serious condition and may not fully recover from his injuries, police said.
Investigators have uncovered a picture of the two suspects believed to be responsible for the beating, as well as a person of interest in the case.
The first suspect is described as an Asian man who is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 210 pounds, while the second suspect, also an Asian man, is described as being about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 135 pounds, according to police.
