HP Expected To Combine PC, Printer Divisions To Cut Costs

PALO ALTO (CBS/AP) - Hewlett-Packard is combining its printing and PC units to save money, according to published reports.

The technology blog AllThingsD first reported the plan Tuesday citing anonymous sources.

Hewlett-Packard Co. would not comment.

The technology company has faltered recently. It said last month that it plans to spend several years turning itself around.

Hewlett-Packard faces internal problems as well as competitive threats to its PC business from tablets and smartphones.

HP is the world's No. 1 maker of personal computers. But consumers are buying fewer PCs in recent years as they increasingly turn their attention to tablets and smartphones.
