$5,000 Reward Offered In Silicon Valley Hawk-Shooting Case

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - A wildlife rescue group is offering a $5,000 reward for information about who is responsible for injuring a wounded hawk that was rescued recently.

Last week, the group WildRescue received a call from the state Department of Fish and Game about a hawk that had been shot in the chest. The bird was taken to the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley in San Jose for treatment.

As of Tuesday, the hawk had regained some strength and was beginning to eat on its own, according to WildRescue officials, who said the bird is in guarded condition.

Earlier this week, rescue crews posted fliers around the San Martin area in an effort to solve the case.

Anyone with information about the bird's injury is asked to call the Department of Fish and Game at (408) 499-8714.
