Mavericks Organizers Expect Another Year Without Big Wave Surfing Contest

HALF MOON BAY (CBS SF) - The Mavericks big-wave surfing contest probably will not happen this year, contest director Jeff Clark said Wednesday.

Clark said it doesn't appear the right combination of wind and ocean swell will materialize before the window for the competition closes on March 31, and that window would not be extended.

Instead the first Mavericks Invitational Festival, featuring live food and music, will be held March 31 in lieu of the contest in the parking lot of the Oceano Hotel & Spa in Princeton-by-the-Sea.

If Clark's prediction comes true, this would be the second year in a row that without a Mavericks contest.
