Archbishop Mitty Of San Jose Girls Win State Div. II Championship

SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- Kalyn Simon and Emily Dinger each scored 16 points as Archbishop Mitty of San Jose held off J.W. North of Riverside, 56-54, to win the California girls' Division II championship at Power Balance Pavilion Friday.

Mitty (28-5) was the heavy favorite over upstart J. W. North, which was 4-21 last season but finished this year 30-6. North, however, couldn't overcome the Monarchs' depth. Kelli Hayes had 13 points and Amanda Lovely had 12 rebounds for Mitty, which eventually wore down the Huskies.

Simone DeCoud led North with 14 points and Akilah Martin and Priscilla Brooks each had 11.

The championship was the fifth for Mitty, the last coming in 2008.
