Man Delivering Newspapers In Suisun City Shot Dead In Possible Mistaken Attack

SUISUN CITY (CBS/AP) - Suisun City police say a man helping to deliver newspapers was shot dead by an assailant who may have feared a drive-by shooting was about to happen.

Authorities say 40-year-old Gadiel Nunez was taken off life support Thursday. He was in a car delivering newspapers in Suisun City when someone at a gathering at a nearby home shot him Wednesday just before midnight.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that investigators believe a drive-by shooting had taken place in the area shortly before Nunez was shot.

Police said the group at the house, who Nunez did not know, may have believed the car delivering newspapers was connected to the earlier shooting.

A 27-year-old Suisun City man whom police considered a suspect in Nunez' death was questioned and released.
