Pedestrian Hospitalized After Collision With Muni Bus

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A woman in her 60s was found injured in the street after she was possibly struck by a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus near San Francisco's Rincon Hill Wednesday evening, San Francisco police said.

The incident occurred at the Beale and Howard streets intersection around 7:45 p.m., police said.

The woman was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

A witness told police the bus was traveling south on Beale Street through the intersection and the woman was standing on an island on Beale Street south of Howard Street. The witness then saw the pedestrian in the road after the bus passed by the island, according to police.

Police were working with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to determine whether the Muni bus was directly involved.

Muni officials said the collision appeared to have involved a Muni bus on the inbound 38L-Geary Limited bus line.

The incident is under investigation with the exact circumstances of the collision yet to be determined, police said.

Because of the woman's serious injuries, the police department's hit and run detail was dispatched to the accident Wednesday night. Following department policy, the detail investigates motor vehicle collisions resulting in serious injury or death, police said.
