Suspect In Fatal Sunnyvale Road Death May Have Fled To India

SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) - Sunnyvale police have obtained an arrest warrant for a homicide suspect who they say may have fled to India after allegedly pushing a woman out of a car and running her over last weekend.

Pawanjit Singh, 25, of San Jose, is wanted in connection with the death of Jennifer Flores, police said Friday.

Flores, 28, was found lying in the roadway with severe injuries in the 1300 block of Socorro Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Sunday after police received a report that a woman had been struck by a car.

She was taken to Valley Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

Investigators determined that Flores had been a passenger in the car before she was pushed out and run over by it, police said.

The vehicle fled the scene immediately, but on Tuesday detectives identified Singh as the driver -- only to learn that he had boarded a flight to India via Dubai a day earlier.

An arrest warrant was issued on Wednesday, with bail set at $1 million, along with a search warrant for Singh's residence. Following a search of his home, police were able to locate and seize Singh's vehicle, which they are currently processing for evidence connected to Flores' death.

Police are working with the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate Singh in India and return him to the U.S.

Anyone with information about the death or Singh's whereabouts should contact Detective Fabian Monge at (408) 730-7131.
