2 Separate SF Embarcadero Crashes Hospitalize 5
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A light-rail vehicle collided with a car and a speeding car struck a building and other vehicles on the Embarcadero in San Francisco Sunday afternoon around the same time in two separate collisions.
The KT Line train struck the vehicle on Embarcadero at Harrison around 4:30 p.m., apparently after the vehicle made an illegal left from Embarcadero, Muni spokesman Paul Rose said.
There were no injuries on board the train, and Muni service was back up and running by about 5:15 p.m., Rose said.
The driver of the vehicle had to be extricated from the car, and suffered non-life threatening injuries, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
Also at around 4:30 p.m., a vehicle was seen traveling south on Embarcadero near Brannan Street at a high rate of speed, weaving erratically in and out of traffic, Esparza said.
When traffic slowed, the vehicle struck one car, bounced off a second and struck a third before coming to rest against the wall of a restaurant, Esparza said.
The driver of the vehicle and four other people were all transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Esparza said.
The accident is being investigated as a possible DUI, Esparza said.
There was no connection between the two Embarcadero collisions, other than proximity.
