Teen's Cell Phone Records Checked In Concord Crash That Killed Bicyclists

CONCORD (CBS/AP) - Investigators were checking cell phone records to determine if talking on a phone may have contributed to a crash that killed a 41-year-old Concord man and his nine-year-old daughter as they rode their bicycles along a sidewalk Saturday.

Witnesses told police that the Cadillac Escalade that jumped a curb and ran down Solaiman Nuri and his daughter was speeding, but Concord police Lt. Bill Roche said that investigators will also review the cell phone records of the 17-year-old driver who was behind the wheel of the SUV.

Toxicology tests were also being run on the teen before investigators can rule out alcohol and drugs as a factor in the crash.

The teen, whose name has not been officially released because of his age, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and booked into Juvenile Hall.

KCBS' Holly Quan Reports:

About 200 mourners gathered Sunday evening for a candlelight vigil at the site of the fatal crash at Treat Boulevard and Oak Grove Road.

Family members consoled Stoorai Nuri, the wife of Solaiman Nuri and mother of girls involved in the crash.

The Contra Costa Times reported that relatives described Solaiman Nuri, an immigrant from Afghanistan, as a loving father who worked long hours as a truck driver to give his family a better life.
