Tech Report: Microsoft Unveils New OS

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Microsoft is releasing more information about its new operating system, due out later this year.

There will be four version of the OS, but the most prominent will be Windows 8, which is what most consumers and small businesses will use. There is also Windows 8 Pro, which a lot of medium to large businesses will want, along with enthusiasts who can't do without the extra features, such as encryption, and other advanced tools.

Perhaps the most interesting version is called Windows RT, which is for the arm processors, which are lower powered, meaning it'll likely run on tablet computers. The biggest deal about Windows 8 is that it will run on desktops and tablets.

KCBS' Larry Magid Comments:

The biggest selling point is the "Metro-Interface." Users of Windows phones are used to seeing the items are organized by touch-tiles, but this OS rolls out a whole new look. Bottom line, it will be easier to use, and you'll be able to manipulate it with your hands.
