Teens Carrying Air Rifles Cause Corte Madera Gun Scare

CORTE MADERA (CBS SF) - Two teens carrying air rifles prompted several people to call 911 in Corte Madera on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The Twin Cities Police Department received a call around 4:35 p.m. about a male wearing camouflage clothing and carrying a rifle bag on Casa Buena Drive at Meadowsweet Drive, Sgt. Julie Gorwood said. The teen had climbed a hillside and disappeared, she said.

The California Highway Patrol also received multiple 911 calls about the suspicious male near U.S. Highway 101, Gorwood said.

The CHP, Twin Cities and Mill Valley police, and the Marin County Sheriff's Office responded, Gorwood said.

Authorities found two 14-year-old boys wearing camouflage on the hillside, carrying Airsoft rifles that did not have orange tips to distinguish them from real firearms, Gorwood said.

The teens were released to their guardians, and Twin Cities police took the rifles for safekeeping, Gorwood said.
