Car Plunges Off Embankment Along Interstate 580 In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A car plunged off an embankment on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 Thursday morning just east of state Highway 13 in Oakland, officials said.

The crash happened at around 5:40 a.m. The California Highway Patrol and the Oakland Fire Department responded to the collision.

One person was trapped inside the car but has since been freed, an Oakland fire dispatcher said.

Four people were injured but the extent of their injuries and how many had been transported to the hospital was not immediately available, a fire dispatcher said.

The Seminary Avenue on-ramp to eastbound I-580 was shut down while officials cleaned up the crash, CHP officials said. CHP has requested a towing service and 50 feet of cable to come to the scene.
