2 Brothers Wanted In Connection With Fatal Stabbing In San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- San Jose police are searching for two brothers suspected of stabbing a man near a home on Cleveland Avenue where a standoff occurred on Friday.

Jonathan Alexander Bess, 20, and Brian James Bess, 23, are suspected of stabbing a 51-year-old man found with stab wounds on the 200 block of Cleveland Avenue around 1:45 a.m. on Friday, according to police spokesman Officer Jose Garcia.

The man, who was found in front of a residence, was pronounced dead at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center a short time later. His identity has not yet been released.

Residents of the home reported the stabbing, and one resident was initially cooperative with police. However, a standoff developed after another resident became uncooperative and locked himself into a room, Garcia said.

The investigating officers had information indicating that there were guns in the house, so they decided to retreat and call in the SWAT team.

Rather than force a confrontation, police spent several hours attempting to communicate with the subject inside the house. At around 11 a.m., he voluntarily left the house and surrendered to police, as did other people in the house.

The subject and the other people in the home were detained and questioned before being released.

Investigators now believe Jonathan Bess and Brian Bess committed the homicide, and then fled the scene before police arrived. They have no known address and their current whereabouts are unknown.

This incident is San Jose's 11th homicide of the year, Garcia said.
