SFPD Investigate Suspicious Death Of Man Found In Golden Gate Park

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 56-year-old San Francisco man who was found struggling to breath on a bench in Golden Gate Park Friday evening.

At about 7:20 p.m., Park Station officers responded to a 911 call for a well-being check on a man who had been asking for help near the Sharon Art Studio, police said.

The officers found the man, who appeared to be experiencing a medical emergency, police said.

The man lost consciousness before an officer-requested ambulance arrived, and officers attempted to resuscitate the man until paramedics arrived.

The paramedics could not revive the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police learned that the man may have been involved in an altercation that occurred around 7 p.m. in a grassy area of the park just east of the art studio.

The San Francisco medical examiner's office and the SFPD homicide unit are investigating the unidentified man's death.

Anyone with information about this death is asked to contact the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to text a tip including "SFPD" to TIP411.
