Suspicious Package Near SF Balboa Park BART Station Rendered Safe

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A suspicious package that tied up traffic and transit near San Francisco's Balboa Park BART station for hours Friday has been rendered safe and all streets have been reopened, police said around 6:30 p.m.

The suspicious package was reported around 2:50 p.m. at the corner of San Jose and Geneva avenues, across the street from the Balboa Park BART station, according to Sgt. Michael Andraychak.

The bomb squad was called in, and police closed Geneva and San Jose avenues and the Geneva on and offramps to Interstate 280.

In addition, Muni's J and K lines were turned back at Ocean Avenue and the M line at Niagara Street. BART patrons were asked to use the station's Ocean Avenue entrance and exit.
