San Ramon Attorney Arrested In Dublin Hit & Run That Killed Cyclist
DUBLIN (CBS SF) - A San Ramon man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist in Dublin on Tuesday, police officials said Friday.
Spencer Freeman Smith was arrested Thursday after Dublin police identified him as the owner of a recently purchased black 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 connected with the fatal crash on Dougherty and Fall Creek roads, according to Lt. Herb Walters.
The vehicle had suffered extensive windshield and front-end damage and was missing parts that were recovered at the scene of the crash. It has been taken into custody for further examination, Walters said.
Smith, an employment attorney with offices in San Francisco, is suspected of fleeing the scene after striking 57-year-old Bo Hu, who was riding or walking his bicycle north on Dougherty Road near the shoulder at the time of the crash around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Hu, who according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau was visiting the area from abroad, was pronounced dead at the scene.
