Car Passenger Crushed To Death In San Jose 680 Big Rig Crash

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - One person died Thursday morning in an accident involving an overturned big-rig on an on-ramp to northbound Interstate Highway 680 in San Jose, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The big-rig appeared to have crushed a Toyota Camry at the eastbound McKee Road on-ramp to northbound I-680, CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said. The crash was reported at 9:57 a.m.

A Sig-alert was issued for the on-ramp at 10:07 a.m., Bartlett said.

A woman riding in the right front passenger seat was killed, according to CHP spokesman Officer D.J. Sarabia.

The big rig truck appeared to have been going too fast on the on-ramp, according to Sarabia.  The unidentified driver was hospitalized and was in critical condition.

The daughter of the woman killed was behind the wheel of the Camry and escaped major injury, according to authorities.
