Reno-Tahoe Bid For 2022 Winter Games Still Alive

RENO, Nev. (CBS / AP) -- Organizers of the Reno-Tahoe Winter Games Coalition said a new revenue-sharing agreement between the International and U.S. Olympic committees was critical to keeping alive their dream of hosting the Winter Games in 2022.

U.S. officials said they wouldn't consider making a bid for the 2022 Games without they deal formalized Thursday.

Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association said it's one of the most important hurdles to clear in the bid to bring the Olympics back to Tahoe, where they were held at Squaw Valley in 1960.

Andy Wirth, CEO of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, told the Reno Gazette-Journal there are still other variables in the mix but it's "nothing but positive news" and he's "thrilled."

Others exploring bids include Denver, Salt Lake City and Bozeman, Mont.
