SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Foodies in San Francisco now have a new location that will meet their dining needs.
The SoMa StrEat Food Park launched last week at 11th and Division in the South of Market neighborhood. Unlike many street food vendors, the park has space for up to 10 food trucks that will change throughout the week.
KCBS’ Patti Reising Reports:
Owner Carlos Muela said there are all sorts of things to tickle your taste buds.
“From Irish-Eritrean fusion to Indian burritos to just your run of the mill great gourmet sausages,” he said.
Muela grew up in the restaurant business as his family owned several Spanish restaurants in San Francisco. He said the street food park fills a much-needed void.
“A restaurant itself is so expensive to open and such a big risk here in the city that this creates an easier entrance to get into the industry,” said Muela.
He said the park doesn’t anger existing brick-and-mortar restaurants that complained when a food truck parked out front and siphoned off some of their business.
“This is a great model where both brick-and-mortars and food trucks can coexist,” said Muela.
The SoMa StrEat Food Park offers WiFi, covered seating and bathrooms and Muela said eventually, once the permitting process goes through, he will be adding a beer garden as well.
The park is open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner.
