Daily Madden: Sharing The Excitement Of The Perfect Game

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - It was perfect. Not a single Houston player reached first base as Giants pitcher Matt Cain threw a no-hitter at AT&T Park Wednesday night.

"I was watching every pitch, and you kind of get into every pitch, and then pretty soon you have that feeling in your stomach, whatever that is, and I haven't had that in a heck of a long time watching a sporting event on TV," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew.

"You're not only talking about a no-hitter, you're talking about a perfect game. So any ball hit you can't afford an error. So every fielding play becomes a thing. To me it was just great drama and great television."

It was the first perfect game in Giants franchise history.

"It was a special night, and I'm glad that I got caught up in it," said the former NFL coach.

The U.S. Open is underway at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. John said he's sympathizing with Phil Mickelson.

"Good ol' Phil gets up there on the first tee and hits an errant ball and it was lost," Madden said. "That's what I do." (5:05)
