OAKLAND (CBS/AP) — The Athletics have optioned pitcher Tyson Ross back to the minors Sunday, one day after the right-hander was called up to make a spot start against San Diego.
Ross allowed two runs and held the Padres to one hit over six innings but didn’t figure in the decision in Oakland’s 6-4 win on Saturday. Ross, who was sent to Triple-A Sacramento, was pitching to give Brandon McCarthy an extra day of rest.
McCarthy is scheduled to pitch against the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday.
Left-hander Pedro Figueroa was called up from Sacramento to take Ross’ spot on the roster. The reliever was with the A’s earlier this season and had a 2.00 ERA in eight appearances.
