Gay Sports Bar Planned For San Francisco Castro District

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A business set to open this October in San Francisco's Castro District is billing itself as the city's first gay sports bar.

Hi Tops will take up residence at 2247 Market Street, most recently home to the restaurant Lime. The planned opening was first reported last week by the restaurant blog Grub Street.

The Castro, San Francisco's neighborhood most closely associated with LGBT culture, already has some bars that draw crowds for Giants games - but the owners of Hi Tops hope to create a space for players from gay sports leagues to get a drink with teammates or catch an out-of-town game.

Owners told Grub Street that the place will have a neighborhood feel and feature one of the widest beer selections in the area.

Renovations were set to begin this month.
