Squawking Fan Creates A Stir At U.S. Open Award Ceremony

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A man sporting a Union Jack knit cap and squawking like a bird briefly interrupted the U.S. Open award ceremony following Webb Simpson's victory at Olympic Club Sunday.

The unidentified fan, who made a peacock-like crow as Simpson was being interviewed by Bob Costas was quickly whisked away by tournament officials.

Simpson did not allow the odd scene to spoil the greatest moment of his career. He laughed, then cracked:

"Enjoy the jail cell, pal."

Costas quipped that the "gendarmes" were taking care of the man.

The video was posted on YouTube.

Afterward, Simpson said he thought the craziness might be part of the script.

Not quite.

There was no immediate information on what happened to the squawker.
