Body Found Weighted Down In Oakland Estuary

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - Police were investigating the discovery of a man's body that had been weighted down in the Oakland Estuary Tuesday morning.

The body was found in the water near the 100 block of Embarcadero near the Jack London Aquatic Center, police said.

The body had been weighted down with four 25-pound weights, Oakland Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

The call came in at 6:30 Tuesday morning when somebody reported parts of a body sticking up from out of the water, said Watson.

"When Oakland police officers arrived, they discovered what appeared to be feet from a person protruding out of the top of the water here at the Estuary," said Watson. "The Oakland Fire Department responded with their boat and they assisted in pulling the body from the water."

No word yet on the person's identity.
