Alameda County Fair Celebrates 100th Anniversary

PLEASANTON (CBS SF) -- The Alameda County Fair is celebrating its 100th year of family fun with a 17-day celebration beginning Wednesday that includes fireworks, a parade, the world's largest outdoor grill, concerts and contests.

"We are beyond excited to celebrate 100 years of family-focused entertainment and offerings at this year's fair," CEO Rick Pickering said.

Attractions at the fair include livestock and agriculture exhibits, carnival rides, quilting displays, culinary contests and horse races.

KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:

As part of the fair's concert series, hip-hop artists Salt-N-Pepa will perform on June 24. Rick Springfield is scheduled to perform on June 28.

The fair runs from Wednesday to July 8 and is closed on Mondays. Fireworks shows are scheduled for each Friday during the fair—June 22, June 29 and July 6 -- and each show starts at about 9:30 p.m.

The fair will be held at the Alameda County Fairgrounds at 4501 Pleasanton Ave. in Pleasanton. More information is available at www.alamedacountyfair.com.
