OAKLAND (KCBS) – Oakland police launched a murder investigation Friday morning, after the body of a woman who had been shot was found along a Highway 13 on-ramp.
Motorists first alerted the authorities after spotting the woman’s body in the brush on the Joaquin Miller Road entrance to northbound Highway 13 at about 2:00 a.m.
“Obviously the people who were going onto the freeway, the witnesses, had their headlights on and that’s how they found her,” explained Oakland police officer Perez Angeles.
KCBS’ Anna Duckworth Reports:
“Witnesses who called attempted to do CPR but no luck,” he continued. “Obviously medical responded and declared the person dead at the scene.”
It was not immediately known whether the shooting itself happened along the highway, or if the woman’s body was dumped there after being shot.
“The first thing is to identify this person,” Angeles said. “And then go talk to the coroner, see what happened, determine the cause of death.”
The onramp was closed for a time as police responded to the scene, but was reopened within a couple of hours.
