Monterey Man Rescued From Ledge Above Arroyo Seco River

GREENFIELD (CBS SF) -- A Monterey County man was rescued Sunday night after an inner-tubing mishap left him stuck on a ledge above the Arroyo Seco River near Greenfield, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

About 9:30 p.m. Sunday, sheriff's deputies and Cal Fire crews responded to an area of the river near 47600 Arroyo Seco Road, sheriff's officials said.

Seaside resident Luis Lopez was inner tubing down the river with a friend when the pair came to a shallow portion of the river and got stuck, then attempted to climb up the sides of a gorge, according to the sheriff's office.

Lopez climbed up to a ledge that was about 150 feet above the river and roughly 250 feet from the top of the ravine, but was unable to climb any further in the darkness.

His friend made it out of the gorge and called for help.

Arriving crews rescued Lopez a short time later. He received

medical treatment at the scene and was released.
