Daily Madden: The NFL's Kickoff Time Shift

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The NFL will start its late Sunday game at 1:25 pm this season, 10 minutes later than last season.

"The home market has to see its game from the start," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "So if you're watching another game and you're in the home market, then they have to switch that game to you at the start" even if the first game hasn't ended."

The NFL hopes the new start time will make it less likely fans will miss the end of the first game.

John said he's been eating out a lot lately to compile a list of his favorite restaurants.

On Wednesday, John said he and his friend Dominic "had lunch at one and then went and had lunch at another one and then another one. Then we took a nap, and then we got up and went to dinner at another place, and then we got take out... That was our first test."

John said he's not looking to influence others with his list. "What I found out in this is that it has to best for you." What kind of restaurant does Madden prefer?

"I don't like fancy places," he said. (7:25)
