Petaluma Teen Falls From School Roof After Fireworks Show

PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- A 19-year-old man suffered wounds to his face when he fell about 20 feet from the roof of the Sonoma Mountain Elementary School early this morning, a Petaluma police lieutenant said.

Eric Chang was on the roof of the school with four or five friends around 12:30 a.m. when he tripped and fell into a courtyard of the K-6 school, located at 1900 Rainier Circle in east Petaluma, Lt. Tim Lyons said.

Lyons said Chang and his friends had gone up on the roof to watch the fireworks show, and that they may have been drinking alcohol.

One of Chang's friends called 911, Lyons said. Chang was unconscious, bleeding from the nose and appeared to be intoxicated when officers arrived, Lyons said.

Chang was taken by ambulance to Petaluma Valley Hospital then flown by helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Lyons said.
