15-Yr-Old Alameda Driver Critically Hurt In Crash; 5 Other Teens Hurt

ALAMEDA (CBS SF) -- Six teens were injured—one critically—when their car crashed into a tree in Alameda early Friday morning, police said.

The crash was reported at 1:36 a.m. in the 800 block of Island Drive.

The 15-year-old driving the car was taken to Highland Hospital with injuries that are considered life-threatening, according to police.

The car's five passengers, four other 15-year-olds and a 13-year-old, were also hospitalized but are expected to survive, police said.

According to a preliminary investigation, the car belongs to one of the passengers' parents and was used without permission, according to police.

The Police Department's major accident investigation team will be investigating whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash.
