SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) — Metal thieves have hauled away aluminum bleachers and irrigation pipes from San Francisco’s Crocker-Amazon Park.

The brazen thieves also tried to steal the metal frames of soccer goals from Crocker-Amazon Park.

The city Recreation and Parks Department estimate hundreds of thousands of dollars in metal equipment has been stolen during an epidemic of recent metal thefts.

The proposed city budget includes money for additional park rangers. There are now no more than two on duty at a time to patrol 220 parks covering more than 4,000 acres.
