19-Year Old Woman Shot, Killed In East Oakland Motel

OAKLAND (KCBS) - A 19-year-old woman died at an East Oakland motel after being shot in the face, police said Thursday.

The woman was found lying in a pool of blood at the Starlite Motel around 3 a.m. by a friend who noticed the door to room 11 had been left open, said Sgt. Randy Brandwood.

"It sounds like this other individual came to check on the lady, and for whatever reason the door was ajar," he said.

KCBS' Holly Quan Reports:

The victim was declared dead at the motel at 10000 MacArthur Boulevard on the corner of 100th Avenue, an area rife with violence, drugs and prostitution.

Brandwood said the woman who was killed was known to police because she had a criminal record, but he would not confirm whether she was a prostitute.

Her murder was the third one recorded in Oakland in less than 48 hours. The city has seen 7 homicides since Friday and 63 for the entire year.
