Driver Jailed In Fremont Crash Which Injured Mother, Baby

FREMONT (CBS SF) - A 21-year-old Union City man was arrested after hitting a woman and her young daughter in Fremont on Wednesday morning, police said Thursday.

Just before 11 a.m., police said, Joseph Ansari got involved in a "road rage" incident that ended with him making a right turn at a high rate of speed at Peralta and Fremont boulevards.

Ansari lost control of his white 2000 Nissan Maxima, hit the curb, severed a traffic light pole, then struck a 43-year-old woman and her 1-year-old daughter in a stroller, police said.

The woman, her daughter and her 3-year-old son were at the corner of the sidewalk waiting to cross at the time of the crash, police said.

The mother and daughter were taken to hospitals to be treated for their wounds, police said. The boy was not injured.

The woman was released from the hospital on Wednesday night, police said. Police did not have an update on the girl's condition but said she is expected to survive.

Police said the road rage incident began at Peralta Boulevard and Mowry Avenue, and that Ansari allegedly sped west on Peralta Boulevard alongside the other car involved, police said.

The other car slowed down at the intersection of Peralta Boulevard and Parish Avenue, but Ansari allegedly continued on Peralta Boulevard to Fremont Boulevard where the collision happened, police said.

After being treated for minor injuries at a hospital, Ansari was arrested for reckless driving causing bodily injury and booked into the Santa Rita Jail, police said.
