Envelopes Containing White Powder Sent To SF, Oakland Police

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- Envelopes containing white powder have turned up at a San Francisco police station and an Oakland police station, the fifth and sixth packages delivered to Bay Area police stations this week.

San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza says after an envelope containing the powder arrived at the station around 11 a.m. Saturday, fire officials determined the substance was not hazardous.

Also on Saturday, Oakland police told the Oakland Tribune that an envelope containing white powder was discovered at a station Friday evening. The powder in that envelope was also determined to be harmless.

Packages containing white powder were also delivered this week to police stations in Hayward, San Leandro, Berkeley and Union City.

The Union City envelope was still being tested, while the substances in the envelopes delivered to Hayward, San Leandro and Berkeley were determined to be harmless.
