SCOTTS VALLEY (CBS 5) — An off-duty Santa Clara County probation officer was injured during a shooting in the Santa Cruz Mountains Tuesday night.

According to authorities, the shooting occurred along Highway 17 near Laurel Road around 8 p.m. Officials said the officer was hit in the left thigh in the shooting.

After being shot, the officer used a police radio to contact the California Highway Patrol. CHP officers, along with authorities from Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties responded to the scene. Firefighters from nearby Scotts Valley also responded.

According to the CHP, two suspects are in custody. Their names have not been released.

Southbound lanes of Highway 17 near Laurel were closed as authorities investigated. All lanes reopened after 10:15 p.m.
