Toddler Found Left Alone In South Sacramento Motel Room
SACRAMENTO (CBS) – The managers of a south Sacramento motel found a 2-year-old baby left alone in one of the rooms on Sunday, and the child’s mother was later arrested.
Managers of the Royal 8 Inn in the 6400 block of Stockton Boulevard reportedly heard the 2-year-old crying after the 11 a.m. checkout time, opened the door to the room with a master key and found the child unharmed.
“It’s kind of scary,” said Vaisali Patel, whose family manages the motel. “It just makes me think about what kind of a mother she really is.”
Sacramento police say a few hours later, they got a call Angelique Williams, 20, saying her child was missing. After putting the pieces of this case together, police determined Williams was the child’s mother.
According to the staff at the motel, Williams returned around 3 p.m. looking for her girl.
“She seemed hysterical,” Mitul Patel said. “She seemed very unaware of the circumstances.”
They heard the mother telling a friend she’d left her child with another family member, but the staff said when she checked in the night before, there was no other family member.
“She said, ‘One person. Me and my child,’” Mitul Patel said.
Williams was arrested for felony child endangerment and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on $50,000 bail. The toddler was turned over to Child Protective Services.
