1 Dead In San Francisco Portola District Shooting, 2 Sought

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police are searching for at least two suspects in a shooting that killed one and left another with life-threatening injuries in San Francisco's Portola neighborhood Tuesday night.

The shooting was reported at 10:03 p.m. in the 3000 block of San Bruno Avenue, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The two victims were standing in front of a building there when two men in their 20s opened fire at them before fleeing the scene and jumping into a waiting car.

The suspects' car was described as a four-door white vehicle, Shyy said.

The man who was fatally shot was identified by the medical examiner's office as 26-year-old Edmundo Sandoval.

Sandoval was pronounced dead at the scene. The other unidentified victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, Shyy said.

KCBS' Holly Quan Reports:

"The two shooting victims were walking together when they were run up on by the suspects," said San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr. "The event took place very quickly. The suspects ran to a waiting vehicle near the freeway that was occupied by a female driver. So it's obvious these two victims were targeted."

The shooting on Tuesday night comes after a recent spate of violence. An 18-year-old Towerside gang member was found dead in Diamond Heights on Sunday. And then on Monday, two men with Towerside ties were killed during a daytime fight on Burr Avenue. Hours later, there was a drive-by-shooting just four blocks away.

Chief Suhr said it's clear that something is boiling over in Visitation Valley and the department is trying to put a lid on it.
