27 Arrested In SF Protest By Janitorial Union

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) - Union officials say 27 protesters were arrested during a march by janitors through San Francisco's financial district.

A spokeswoman for SEIU Local 87 said the protesters—janitors and supporters—were taken into custody when they blocked traffic Wednesday afternoon.

Spokeswoman Cecille Isidro says about 2,500 people took part in the march.

She says Wednesday's march comes as janitors are being asked by several companies that provide cleaning services San Francisco's financial district to pay as much as $600 more in healthcare co-pays per month.

San Francisco police did not immediately return a call seeking information about the arrests.
