Person Pinned Under Train At Lake Merritt BART Station

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - BART passengers experienced major delays Friday afternoon because of a person under a train at the Lake Merritt station, according to a dispatcher.

The Lake Merritt station was closed for about an hour as a result of the accident, according to the dispatcher.

Officials said the man's condition was not immediately known, but he was said to be alert and responsive as he was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities said it is not known why the man was on the tracks as they have not ruled out the possibility of a suicide attempt.

Service in the Fremont and Dublin/Pleasanton-bound directions saw delays of more than 20 minutes. All tracks were opened prior to 4 p.m.
