Stolen Car Overturns On I-880 In Oakland During Police Chase

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A vehicle overturned on northbound Interstate Highway 880 near 66th Avenue Friday morning during a pursuit of a suspected stolen car, Oakland police said.

The suspected stolen car was spotted by patrol officers in the area of Hegenberger Road near Highway 880 just before noon, Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

The officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver sped away on northbound Highway 880, Watson said.

Police pursued, and the vehicle eventually overturned on the highway near 66th Avenue.

The vehicle appears to have been occupied by a single person, Watson said. That person was shot with a Taser stun gun and taken into custody, she said.

No major injuries were reported, but Watson said the suspect will be medically cleared before he is taken to jail.

Traffic was backed up on northbound Highway 880 as a result of the crash.
