North Bay Couple Pleads No Contest In Abuse Of Their 2-Month-Old

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) - A Penngrove couple accused of abusing their 2-month-old child entered no-contest pleas this morning in Sonoma County Superior Court.

Lyndsay Patricia Jackson, 20, and Jesus Daniel Colula, 26, were each charged with two counts of felony child abuse, and both pleaded no contest to one of the charges, Deputy District Attorney Rosanne Darling said.

The couple face 12-year prison terms when they are sentenced on Sept. 27, Darling said.

The baby's injuries were reported to Child Protective Services in May after the couple took the baby to a doctor for an exam, Sonoma County sheriff's Lt. Dennis O'Leary said. The infant was then taken to Oakland Children's Hospital.

The injuries included a broken bone, several fractures, bruises and a contusion, O'Leary said.

When questioned, the couple could not give a plausible reason for the severe injuries or why they didn't seek medical attention for the baby for at least a week, O'Leary said.

They were arrested June 6 at their Sturtevant Drive home and were booked into Sonoma County Jail.
