Search For Robbery Suspect Forces Brief SF Elementary School Lockdown

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - An elementary school in San Francisco's Richmond District was on lockdown briefly Friday afternoon when police responded to a nearby armed robbery, a school district spokeswoman said.

Students at Alamo Elementary School at 250 23rd Ave. were on lockdown for about 45 minutes until about 3:35 p.m., San Francisco Unified School District spokeswoman Gentle Blythe said.

Police put the school on lockdown as a precaution, Blythe said, when a robbery was reported at a nearby store.

"Everyone is safe," Blythe said once the order was lifted.

A woman answering the phone at the school said as of 3:30 p.m. the entire campus had been ordered to stay indoors.
