Gilroy Police Seek Shooter Who Fired Into Occupied Car

GILROY (CBS SF) -- A man shot into an occupied car in Gilroy Saturday night, police said.

The shooting in the 8100 block of Westwood Drive was reported at 7:06 p.m. after an unknown man fired a single round into a vehicle, according to police.

The shooter and the victims fled the scene before officers arrived. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting and the victims have not come forward, police said.

Police said the suspect is described as an armed Hispanic man in his early 20s who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs roughly 140 pounds. The suspect may be associated with a brown older model Plymouth minivan.

Officers stopped that vehicle on Westwood Drive in Gilroy later Saturday night and arrested the minivan's driver on drug and weapon charges unrelated to the shooting, according to police.

An investigation into the shooting is in the preliminary stages, but police believe the incident was gang-related.

Anyone with information about this crime may contact Gilroy police at (408) 846-0350. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call (800) 782-7463.
