Alanis Morissette Releases 'Havoc And Bright Lights'

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS LOCAL) - This week marks the long awaited release of Alanis Morissette's brand new album Havoc and Bright Lights. In true Alanis fashion, the album is a collection of songs about her own life and the current state of society as a whole.

Jayn from Alice@97.3 talked with Alanis Morissette about Now & Zen Fest 2012, her new record 'Havoc and Bright Lights', and of course her family:

"I think it was a great snap shot of this period of time and for me I love making social commentary on what is going on microcosmically and what is happening in the world around me," she told CBS Local.

Since the 2008 release of Flavors of Entanglement, the singer's personal life has become filled with the growth of her own family – her marriage to Mario "MC Souleye" Treadway and the birth of their son Ever. It's these personal moments combined with her own observations that she admits brought her closer to writing about the album's underlying themes.

Being a wife and new mom also lent itself to creating the titles of the songs found on Havoc – most of which are just one word. Looking back, she realized it's yet another reflection of her balancing family and career, and like most women, trying to do it all. "Maybe it's the simplifying part of me these days. Clear the clutter and make it simple. At least make it organized."

So, did she notice the shorten titles when she was sequencing the album?

The busy mom has more to get ready for. This weekend she'll be taking the Guardian Angel Tour to South America for a few weeks and then it's back up to California to launch her stateside dates in San Diego on September 24.

Alanis Morissette will headline Alice's Now & Zen Fest in Sharon Meadow at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on Sunday, September 30, 2012. Joining the seven-time Grammy winner will be Tristan Prettyman, Ed Sheeran, "American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips, fellow Canadian act, Hedley and Bay Area resident, Matt Nathanson.
