Bay Area Airports Rank Best, Worst for On-Time Performance

SAN JOSE (KCBS) — Got a tight travel schedule? You might want to consider booking your flight at Mineta San Jose International Airport.

The federal government has declared the South Bay’s hub the most on-time airport in California.

Statistics released by the Bureau of Transportation also put Oakland International Airport as the fifth-best in terms of on-time performance in the Golden State.

San Francisco International Airport, by contrast, sat at the bottom of the list.

KCBS’ Dave Padilla Reports:

SFO has long been a popular choice for vacationers and business travelers alike, and that may be partly to blame for its dismal showing.

“San Francisco, because of its congestion, has really catapulted into the number one slot of delayed airports. Conversely, San Jose, with our good weather and our airfield configuration, we are one of the most on-time airports in the U.S.,” reasoned Bill Sherry, Aviation Director at SJC.

“The business traveler really knows that the chances of them departing on time and arriving on time [at SJC] is significantly better than it is in San Francisco,” he said.
