Redwood City Woman, Teenager Killed In Yolo County DUI Crash

WOODLAND, Yolo County (CBS SF) – A Redwood City woman and a 14-year-old boy were killed Monday when a truck they were riding in crashed off a Yolo County highway near Woodland, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

At about 4:45 p.m., the CHP responded to a report that a Toyota Tacoma had crashed into a tree along state Highway 16 just east of County Road 40, Officer Bryan Konvalin said.

The truck had been traveling west when, for unknown reasons, it left the roadway, overturned several times, and crashed into a tree about 75 feet down a steep embankment, Konvalin said.

The right side of the truck hit the tree, and the two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was identified as Ann Marie Miller, 39, of Redwood City, Yolo County Chief Deputy Coroner Robert LaBrash said.

The driver, 46-year-old Reyes Barajas, also of Redwood City, survived the crash and was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

The boy has not been identified, and the relationship between the two victims and the driver has not been confirmed.

CHP officers responded to the hospital and determined that Barajas had been driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, Konvalin said.

Barajas was arrested for two counts of DUI causing injury or death, and could face charges of gross vehicular manslaughter.

He remained in the hospital as of Wednesday morning, but will be booked into Yolo County Jail as soon as he is able to leave the facility, Konvalin said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the suspect is asked to contact the Woodland CHP office at (530) 662-4685.
