Leading State Democrat Praises Accomplishments Of Legislative Session

SACRAMENTO (KCBS) - The legislative session that recently ended turned out to be one of the most productive periods for the California legislature in decades, said Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg.

Bills on pension reform, workers compensation reform, foreclosure relief were all passed in 2012, not to mention two annual budgets passed on time.

KCBS' Jeffrey Schaub Reports:

A fellow Democrat, Gov. Jerry Brown, deserves some credit for the legislature's success with even controversial bills such as high-speed rail, Steinberg said.

"We worked together."

Despite meeting the deadlines to pass a budget, California's long-term fiscal problems were not resolved. Steinberg said meeting that challenge next year would be even more difficult if Gov. Brown's tax hikes fail in November.
